Who is Steve Harvey?

Steve Harvey, born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia, USA, as Emmitt Perry Jr., is an actor and writer known for The Original Kings of Comedy (2000), I Think I Love My Wife (2007), and A Family Man (2017). He has been married to Marjorie Bridges since May 28, 2007. They have three children.

Steve Harvey's childhood

Steve Harvey is one of the world's most iconic figures. He was born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia. He spent his childhood playing baseball and football and graduated high school in 1975.

 After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force to follow in his father's footsteps. Steve spent four years stationed at Dover Air Force Base, where he worked as a supply clerk for over two years.

 There he started hosting an evening show called The Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 with Rick Dees. They also hosted a morning radio show called Steve & The Big Dog. Unfortunately, the morning show was canceled when they got caught drinking on air, but they managed to secure their jobs after sending out 500 apology letters.


Steve Harvey's early career

Steve Harvey has hosted many shows, but his most famous show is Family Feud. He also hosts a radio show called The Steve Harvey Morning Show and has been the host of the Miss Universe pageant since 2015.

 Before attending West Virginia University, he attended South Charleston High School, where he played basketball and studied sociology. 

In 1978, he moved to Chicago and started stand-up comedy there. From 1980-1982, he worked at Mr. Magic's Rappers Delight record store in Los Angeles while performing as an opening act for The Gap Band at night. He returned to Chicago in 1982 with $500 that would last him six months if it went well.

Steve Harvey is an Emmy Award-winning television host, comedian, actor, author, and producer. He has been hosting the nationally syndicated talk show Steve Harvey since July 2012. The show is produced by Endemol Shine North America and airs in 140 countries worldwide, reaching more than 80 million homes. 

In 2005, he starred as Nick at Nite's first African American father of the modern era in Meet the Browns. In 2009, he authored his first book, Act Like a Lady Think Like a Man, on The New York Times Best Seller List for five months with over 2 million copies sold. 

He then wrote another bestseller, Straight Talk, No Chaser: How to Find and Keep a Man. In 2013, Harvey took to the stage again with Steve Harvey: Turn Off The Lights before embarking on The Steve Harvey's Big Time Comedy Tour in 2014.


Family Feud

 His father worked as a coal miner, and his mother was a housewife. When he was 13 years old, he won an oratory contest that led to an appearance on the TV show Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour. 

He attended college at West Virginia State University (WVSU), where he joined the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity before graduating with a degree in telecommunications in 1979.

 He then continued to graduate school at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, where he received a master's degree in education. While there, he became chairman of the university's communications department.


Other ventures

In addition to his talk show, Harvey has written six best-selling books and starred in the movie The Original Kings of Comedy.

 He is also a board member of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation and chairman of President Obama's Council on Physical Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition. 

In addition, he has been involved with several charitable organizations such as Keep a Child Alive, Toys for Tots, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Feeding America, and One Walk America.  

In 2008 he was awarded an honorary degree from Duke University for his philanthropic work. In 2011 he donated $1 million to help victims of Hurricane Irene.

Harvey received both criticism and praise after he revealed that Miss California 2009 Carrie Prejean had been disloyal to her employer Donald Trump when she responded affirmatively

 when asked by pageant judge Perez Hilton, You're opposed to same-sex marriage;

 do you believe gay marriage should be legal? Prejean had said no but changed her answer because she did not want it televised.


Philanthropy

 He attended college at West Virginia University and the University of Memphis to study speech pathology. After graduating, he got a job as a stand-up comic for two years before returning to school to get his degree in psychology.

 Once he earned his degree, he decided to pursue a career as a stand-up comic again and spent the next twenty years touring America. During this time, he became a bestselling author with his book Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man, which has sold more than three million copies. 

With that book and other books that followed it, like Straight Talk, No Chaser, and Act Like A Success Think Like A Success (2009), Harvey has become one of the most popular authors in America today.


Awards and recognition

Steve Harvey is an award-winning comedian, television personality, producer, and author. His first book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, was published in 2009 and became a New York Times bestseller.

 He followed up with Straight Talk, No Chaser: How to Find and Keep a Man by Knowing What Men Want - What They Think About Love, Relationships and Commitment in 2011.

That same year, he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the song Family, which he co-wrote with John Legend.

In 2012, he starred as himself in the film Think Like a Man alongside actors like Taraji P. Henson, Michael Ealy, Meagan Good, and Gabrielle Union. 

The movie debuted at number one on the US box office charts, with 33 million dollars grossed during its opening weekend. It also earned over $92 million worldwide.
